‘Pohjola’ (a Finnish concept that translates as ‘North’ or ‘Nordic region’ and which is featured in the Finnish epic poem ‘Kalevala’) is a deeply personal and evocative work that pays homage both to the composer's heritage and to the enduring resilience and spirit of Finland and its people. It

is rich in emotion and cultural significance and offers listeners a unique musical exploration of Finnish identity. "It is a tribute to my roots as a Finnish composer and to the collective memory of a nation that has endured and thrived" says A. Blomqvist. Personal family stories from war time and his own role as a peacekeeper in the Middle East caused him to reflect on the world's harsh realities which then sparked a desire in him to create something timeless that would transcend the darkness he had witnessed. Blomqvist was moved to start composing in 2019 and soon became one of Finland's most prominent classical artists, attracting a substantial audience all over the globe.
