Alice K. Dade has released the long anticipated - Living Music on Naxos. An album of new chamber music for flute, Dade is joined by pianists John Novacek and Noam Elkies, along with Scott Yoo, Erik Arvinder, Maurycy Banaszek, Jonah Kim, and Susan Cahill of Festival Mozaic. Recorded at Skywalker Sound - Living Music producer is Leslie Ann Jones, engineer - Dann Thomas.

As a companion to the music album, Dade appears in a series of short films that we will be distributing to media and local radio. These segments include conversations with each composer about approach, inspiration, influences and motivations.

Here are some notes on the pieces:

Air by Aaron Jay Kernis, originally written for violin and piano, is presented in its world premiere recording, arranged for flute and string quartet. Kernis, Pulitzer Prize Winner in music, writes that, "Air is a love letter in music."

Skipping Stones by Michael Fine is a piece inspired by the composer's childhood by way of a train ride from Holland to France.

E Sonata is written by Noam Elkies, the youngest ever-tenured professor at Harvard University. The composer / mathematician performs as pianist on the piece.

Scottish-American composer Jennifer Margaret Barker wrote Na Trí Peathraichean. The piece got it's name from ‘the three sisters,' neighboring mountain ridges in the Scottish Highlands.

Pavanes and Symmetries by Dan Coleman was inspired by a Stanley Kunitz statement, in which the poet "speculated on the possibility, beyond simplicity, of an art so transparent that one could look through it and see the world."

Alice K. Dade is a Juilliard graduate and Powell artist. She has performed as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician all over the world, and has recorded with Deutsche Grammophon.
