With 'Believe,' Andrea Bocelli earns No. 1 on billboard 'Classical Albums Chart' and his 10th 'Top10 on 'Album Sales Chart'
Posted At : November 25, 2020 12:00 AM
Andrea Bocelli earns his 10th top 10 on Billboard's Album Sales chart (dated Nov. 28), as his latest release, Believe, bows at No. 5. The set was released on Nov. 13 via Sugar/Decca Records, and sold 20,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 19, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
Also in the top 10, AC/DC's Power Up launches at No. 1, Chris Stapleton's Starting Over debuts at No. 2, Pentatonix's We Need a Little Christmas arrives at No. 8 and a flurry of catalog titles see major gains thanks to sale pricing at Walmart.
Billboard's Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The Album Sales chart's history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Pure album sales were the measurement solely utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units.
Bocelli got his first top 10 on the Album Sales chart in 1999 with Sogno, which debuted and peaked at No. 4. He landed his first No. 1 with 2018's Si.
Through his career, Bocelli has sold 24.3 million albums in the U.S. Believe also gives Bocelli his 20th No. 1 on the Classical Albums chart and his 14th No. 1 on the Classical Crossover Albums tally. He extends his own record for the most No. 1 albums on both charts.

Andrea Bocelli becomes the first classical singer to top Official UK Album Chart since 1994 / CLASSIC fM
Posted At : November 2, 2018 12:00 AM
Today, Andrea Bocelli becomes the first classical singer to top the Official UK Album Chart since 1994, when The Three Tenors reached the top spot. Bocelli's Sì was released on 26 October and was this week battling for Number 1 against stiff competition from the soundtrack for A Star is Born – starring Lady Gaga – and Tom Odell's album Jubilee Road.
Bocelli's album is his first album of all-new material in 14 years and features duets with the likes of pop star Dua Lipa, crossover star Josh Groban and soprano Aida Garifullina. It's released on the Decca/Sugar record label and is his first ever No.1 album. The track ‘Fall On Me' is a duet with the singer's own son, Matteo Bocelli, and also features in the soundtrack for the upcoming Disney movie, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Andrea Bocelli said: "Life never ceases to amaze. I would never have imagined achieving this, even in a country that welcomed me from the very beginning. Yet beyond the numbers and the charts, what really counts is the affection of an audience – the handshakes, the smiles, the applauses. My heartfelt thanks to all those people who wanted to reward my latest effort. A big thank you also on behalf of my little, great Matteo who, these days, has been living by my side – an indescribable experience."

Andrea Bocelli speaks with the Daily Beast
Posted At : February 19, 2018 12:00 AM
It's a defying-the-odds story tailor-made for the big screen: born with glaucoma, a shy and withdrawn Italian boy is stripped of his eyesight at the age of 12 following a freak soccer injury, only to grow up and become a world-renowned singer. Such is the journey of Andrea Bocelli, the 59-year-old Tuscan tenor who sold over 80 million albums worldwide, performed for presidents and popes, and had his timeless classic, "Con Te Partiro," memorialized on the greatest television show ever: The Sopranos.
Now, Bocelli's been given the biopic treatment in The Music of Silence. Directed by Michael Radford (Il Postino) and adapted from Bocelli's memoir of the same name, it stars Game of Thrones' Toby Sebastian as the Bocelli proxy Amos, a blind youngster who, with the help of a Maestro (Antonio Banderas), achieves fame and fortune beyond his wildest dreams. The Daily Beast spoke to Bocelli-through a translator, mind you-about the film based on his life, his unique modus operandi, and whether or not he backed out of performing at the president inauguration of his longtime pal, Donald J. Trump.

Andrea Bocelli reflects on having his life on film / Los Angeles Times

If you really want to know about Andrea Bocelli, you should probably ask his wife the questions, the Italian tenor quips. The classical crossover star is fielding questions about his life story ahead of the release of "The Music of Silence," a new biopic that opens in theaters on Feb. 2. The movie, directed by Michael Radford and starring Antonio Banderas, is based on Bocelli's 1999 memoir of the same title. Like the book, the film portrays Bocelli's life growing up on a picturesque Tuscan farm, the medical issues that took his sight as a boy and his early passion for singing. It's an intimate look at the beginnings of a prolific international career, and a window into an extraordinary life.
Bocelli reminisces about past appearances at the Hollywood Bowl (he's performing there again this summer) and chats about the very near future. Beyond the next 48 hours, the 59-year-old singer says, he'd rather not make too many plans.

Robot to conduct the works of Verdi alongside Andrea Bocelli / The Telegraph
Posted At : August 17, 2017 12:00 AM
A Swiss humanoid robot is to conduct a Tuscan orchestra in the works of Verdi alongside Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. The robot, called YuMi, will be the closest a humanoid has come to mastering the nuances of a human orchestra director when he performs. "YuMi has a very high level of fluidity of gesture, incredible softness and expressive nuancing," said Andrea Colombini, the director of the Teatro Verdi in Pisa where the concert will be staged. Created by the Swiss company ABB, YuMi will make his orchestral debut on Sept. 12 directing the Lucca Philharmonic. The performance will climax a gala event for the end of the first International Festival of Robotics being held in Pisa, organized by the prestigious Scuola Normale of Pisa university and the ARPA foundation of which Bocelli is the honorary head.
Bocelli will sing as YuMi directs La donna è mobile, (Woman is fickle), a famed scene from the third act of Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, while soloist Maria Luigia Borsis will accompany the robot by singing the classic soprano aria O mio babbino caro (Oh my beloved father) from Gianni Schicchi by Puccini. YuMi also will direct a passage from Mascagni's Intermezzo in the Cavalleria Rusticana.

Andrea Bocelli's battle with blindness inspires big-screen story / theguardian
Posted At : December 4, 2016 12:00 AM
He is the golden-voiced Italian tenor who overcame blindness and other extreme obstacles to find success on the world stage, selling more than 80 million albums. Now Andrea Bocelli, 58, has inspired one of Britain's leading film directors to tell his extraordinary story on the big screen. The singer has asked only that his blindness not be portrayed as a disability. The Music of Silence is being shot by Michael Radford, whose previous films include the critically acclaimed Il Postino – for which he received an Oscar nomination – and a version of The Merchant of Venice starring Al Pacino.
This new film, based on Bocelli's autobiographical novel of the same name, explores the relationship between blindness and hearing, as well as other senses heightened by the loss of sight. Bocelli went blind as a child, struggled to teach himself to read music in Braille, and competed in talent shows until his potential was recognised by Luciano Pavarotti, who declared that "there is no finer voice than Bocelli".

Tony Bennett turns 90 today – August 3. Born Anthony Benedetto, he went back to his Italian roots in 2011 when he took a trip to opera star Andrea Bocelli's home to record this classic duet: a unique version of Stranger in Paradise from the musical Kismet , set to the music of Borodin. Apart from being Italian, Bennett has a curious connection with opera. Not only did he initially consider being an opera singer, his biggest hit, I left my heart in San Francisco, was originally written in the early 1950s for Metropolitan Opera star contralto Claramae Turner. Italy opened the Milan Expo 2015 to the public on Friday as organizers expected 20 million visitors over six months. The inauguration ceremony featured a spectacular concert by tenor Andrea Bocelli, Chinese pianist Lang Lang and a performance by the city's renowned La Scala opera. Rome was expecting to earn 10 billion euros through increased tourist revenues and potential investment.
The theme for this year's expo is "Feeding the planet, energy for life," which would focus on bringing "the representatives of 145 countries together convening around a key topic, that is food and food security, and the question of how to feed nine billion people," Philip Reeker, the US Consul General in Milan, told the Associated Press.
