Chamber Choir Of Europe, Nicol Matt: Bio
The Chamber Choir of Europe is made up of professional singers from throughout the continent who are embarking on a solo career or are established members of national and international radio choirs, and who meet regularly for a concentrated series of rehearsals and concerts, including festivals. The Chamber Choir of Europe has been described by Bobby McFerrin as a perfect 'voice orchestra'.
The Choir, which is supported by a highly effective Mannheim-based management team, are well known for their passionate, inspiring performances, rightly earning them an international reputation for excellence.

"Magical and heavenly sounds" (Eckhard Britsch, Mannheimer Morgen)
Kufstein, Austria, was the setting for a fascinating coming-together of European and American choral cultures: the result, "Light – Eternal" - The Choral Music of Morten Lauridsen (USA) – is a very special interweaving of existing compositions and world premieres by the world-renowned composer Morten Lauridsen, recorded for posterity by the incomparable Chamber Choir of Europe.
The German conductor, Nicol Matt, studied Protestant Church Music at the State Conservatory of Music in Trossingen and Choir Direction with Professor Manfred Schreier. He then continued his studies in the subject Voice at the State Conservatory for Musik and Visual Arts in Stuttgart with Professor Thomas Pfeiffer. He also studied Coaching and Song Accompaniment at the Conservatory in Strasbourg with Professor Charles Schwarz and attended master-classes for Choir Direction with Frieder Bernius and Eric Ericson.
Nicol Matt is one of Germany's few new generation conductors enjoying international reputation. He is conductor of the Chamber Choir of Europe (which, until spring 2002, bore the name Nordic Chamber Choir). Since 2001, he has also conducted the amadeus-choir. These two choirs have given numerous concerts around the world.
Nicol Matt regularly receives invitations to perform at established concert series such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the SWR Festival and the MDR Musical Summer - a reflection of the undivided praise accorded his high artistic standards by the press. Extensive concert and production activities as a guest conductor have brought him together with many prestigious orchestras both inside and outside Germany.
Alongside the intensive work with his own ensembles, the Chamber Choir of Europe and the European Chamber Soloists, Nicol Matt always finds time to work together with soloists from leading radio orchestras such as the SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg or the Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphonieorchester, as well as to become involved in interesting crossover projects, for example with the actors Mathieu Carrière, Daniela Ziegler, Dieter Laser and Christine Kaufmann.
His active co-operation with contemporary composers from Germany, England and the USA – including Morten Lauridsen, Bob Chilcott, John Rutter, Hans Schanderl, Frank Zabel - shows just how open he is to everything new as well as his desire to round off his artistic profile.
Besides him conducting the Chamber Choir of Europe, Nicol Matt also holds lectures in Choir direction at the Internationaler Arbeitskreis für Musik e.V. (IAM) in Kassel. Various tour have led him to the USA, to Canada, Belgium, France, Greece and the Netherlands.
Almost one hundred CD productions -for Brilliant Classics, Bayer Records, ARS Produktion, Hänssler Classics and Dabringhaus & Grimm - with recordings of highly demanding vocal, orchestral and instrumental works, document his sophistication as an artist and show him to be a man of many skills. He has an impressively broad and varied repertoire at his command. Worldwide sales of over eight million CD's testify to the demand for his highly-regarded interpretations. He has also recorded for for radio and television.
