Pianist, educator, author, philanthropist, and advocate for women in music, Claudette Sorel was a child prodigy pianist who went on to make over 2000 concert, recital and festival appearances in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s. A proud naturalized American, she premiered works by such American composers as Lukas Foss, Peter Mennin, Paul Creston, and Aaron Copland. In 1996 she founded the Elizabeth and Michel Sorel Charitable Organization, named for her parents, to help expand opportunities and stretch the boundaries for women in music, opportunities she felt had eluded women of her generation. Claudette Sorel Rediscovered is a commemorative 2CD set showcasing the late pianist in solo works and American concertos drawn from her out-of-print recordings. The set will be released on October 15, 2021 on the Sorel Classics label, distributed by Naxos.
