A Flint choir and jazz singer born in Memphis but raised in Flint performed on CNN ahead of Wednesday night's Democratic presidential debate hosted in Detroit's Fox Theatre. The Flint City Wide Choir, a gospel choir with more than 200 members, sang "America the Beautiful" alongside singer Dee Dee Bridgewater just before 7 p.m. Bridgewater followed up with the National Anthem in an official start to the debate.

The choir, which posted on Facebook that it would make Flint proud, also participated in a presidential debate in 2016.  Plagued by its well-known water crisis, Flint was mentioned briefly in Tuesday night's debate during a discussion about racial and environmental injustice.
