Celebrating Monteverdi's 450th anniversary and I Fagiolini's 30th anniversary, The Other Vespers focuses on sacred works from the end of the composer's life, including the celebrated "Beatus vir," pairing them with the music of his contemporaries, such as Palestrina, Gabrieli and Frescobaldi. Director and Monteverdi specialist Robert Hollingworth treats the album as an authentic vespers setting - with antiphons, collects and other short excerpts between each work.
