Aznavouriana

Parisian cellist sensation Camille Thomas is back with her first crossover album “Aznavouriana” dedicated to the legendary Charles Aznavour to mark his 100th anniversary (May 22nd).

A declaration of love to the work of Aznavour, the great poet who has forever marked the French Pop, accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and Sergey Smbatyan.

A prolific artist, Charles Aznavour built up an unrivalled repertoire (51 albums in French, 42 in foreign languages) and sang on stages all over the world.

Part of the profits from the album will be donated to the refugees of Nagorno-Karabakh through the Aznavour Foundation.

The Chopin Project

It’s simple: Camille Thomas has not one memory without music. Nor any memories without a cello either, come to that matter. From the age of four, when she first asked if she might play an instrument, it was a cello, and only a cello, that she wanted to learn.  Right from that very moment, it seemed so obvious that she was destined to meet the cello. The young girl literally had a passion for this instrument and she was a quick learner, first joining the Choir of Radio France’s Maîtrise school, and then beginning her music studies. And, also obviously, her passion was confirmed, so much so that this young Franco-Belgian quickly felt a desire that was to be satisfied elsewhere. She left Paris for Berlin. “I could feel a need to leave my comfort zone. Russian art fascinated me: Dostoyevsky in literature; Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky notably for such vibrations in the sounds. So leaving to go to Berlin,” she remembers, “was a little like getting closer to them...”

Voice of Hope

Voice of Hope, Camille Thomas's second album for Deutsche Grammophon is out now. The Franco-Belgian cellist's programme pays tribute to people's ability to triumph over adversity, create harmony in place of chaos, and overcome hatred with love. It presents the world premiere recording of Fazil Say's concerto Never Give Up, a response to terrorist attacks in Paris and Istanbul written for and premiered by Thomas, and also includes an exquisite selection of songs, prayers and laments, Bruch's Kol Nidrei, Purcell's "When I am laid in earth" and Ravel's Kaddisch among them.
