Tchaikovsky P.C. No. 1 & Sym. No. 6 w/HK Phil, JvZ

Internationally and critically acclaimed young pianist Niu Niu is released a new live recording album with Hong Kong’s Philharmonica available today!  This is Niu Niu’s first live album with HKPhil, recorded live in December 2022.

The horns throw down a challenge, and the piano strides forward. The whole orchestra gives a sigh of pain and begins a passionate struggle for life itself. It’s all about emotion, it’s all about drama and above all, it’s about melody, as Niu Niu and Jaap van Zweden join forces in two of Tchaikovsky’s best-loved masterpieces: the shattering Sixth Symphony, and the romantic First Piano Concerto.

Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto stands as one of the most Popular pieces of classical music. The second half of the concert is devoted to Tchaikovsky’s last work, the Pathetique Symphony. It’s deep, passionate emotion has captivated audiences since its premiere.

Jaap van Zweden, SBS, one of today’s most sought-after conductors, has been the orchestra’s Music Director since the 2012/13 Season. Under the dynamic leadership of Jaap van Zweden, the HK Phil has attained new heights of artistic excellence, receiving international critical acclaim. HKPhil concert performances have been enthusiastically received, and the live recordings were praised by critics, and garnered the Gramophone Orchestra of the Year Award 2019.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is recognised as one of Asia’s foremost classical orchestras. The HK Phil won the prestigious UK classical music magazine Gramophone’s 2019 Orchestra of the Year Award – the first orchestra in Asia to receive this accolade.
