Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

SIGNATURE Philip Glass

Fifteen years after paying tribute to the great composer as part of her PORTRAIT series dedicated to current composers, Angèle Dubeau along with La Pietà focus again on Philip Glass in the violinist's 48th recording:  SIGNATURE Philip Glass. The album is available on all digital platforms and in physical format.

The first single, Opening, is the subject of a clip filmed recently at Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal.

“After my album Portrait: Philip Glass, released in 2008, I wanted to dive back into the colossal work of this iconic composer of our time. His work has and will continue to have an impact on musical life for a long time to come. Glass’s music has always fascinated me. It captivates me and, for many years, has nourished me and made me grow intellectually and musically,” she emphasizes.

Elle

On February 11, violinist Angèle Dubeau will release ELLE, a new album that magnificently marks the 25 years of existence of her orchestra La Pietà. This 46th album resonates with the feminine sensitivity and virtuosity specific to Angèle Dubeau and the ensemble she founded in 1997, which has ever since demonstrated its artistic excellence and audacity.

ELLE transports listeners to a mesmerizing universe, that is alternately powerful and delicate, touching and ethereal. It features curated pieces by female composers from both here and abroad. François Vallières and Angèle Dubeau are responsible for the arrangements and orchestrations of most of the album recorded at the Église St-Mathieu-de-Beloeil. Carl Talbot is the producer.

“How should I celebrate the 25th anniversary of La Pietà? The answer came naturally to me: through music. An album entirely conceived, composed and played by women—ELLE, in the singular, because each woman is unique. Curious, I began listening to works by female composers, selecting without any barriers, open to discovery, guided by my instinct and my pleasure.

My approach was oriented towards contem- porary female composers, but I also wanted to take a little trip back in time to Hildegard von Bingen, an important 12th century visionary whose writings and scores have survived to this day. I also made a dream I’ve had for over 10 years of creating a poignant exchange between Inuit throat singing and my violin come true.
        Enjoy!   – ANGÈLE DUBEAU O.C., C.Q., O.M.

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

Immersion

Angèle Dubeau is releasing her 45th album today: Immersion. Recorded with the twelve brilliant musicians of La Pietà, Immersion echoes Pulsations, her previous album which won the Félix prize for Best Classical Album of the Year in 2020. While Pulsations brought together intense works, evocative of strong images, Immersion, the first of three albums to be released this year by the violinist, offers a deep introspective dive imbued with sensitivity.

A lifelong music lover, tireless in her research - she has spent hundreds of hours listening to music since March 2020! -, Angèle Dubeau found for her new album fourteen works "on which I lingered intuitively because I really needed them", she confides. Works that catered to her emotions and which have provided her with a salutary and necessary well-being in these turbulent and pandemic times. Now she offers her own interpre- tations to her vast public.

Noel

Silent night! Holy night! Hearing just a few notes of this eternal carol is enough to envelop us in a sweet tranquility and inner peace that goes well beyond the meaning of the words written by Joseph Mohr and music famous song by Franz Xaver Gruber. Jumbled memories arise of snow-covered countryside, crackling fires, delicious aromas filling the house, the joyful shouts of excited children unwrapping presents. Has Christmas turned into mere nostalgia, or can we rediscover the true meaning of this celebration? Angele Dubeau thinks we can and, through both popular songs and carols works associated with the Nativity, on 'NOEL' she offers here a voyage through a world with diverse origins and traditions. This musical tour and celebration of the Nativity will take you to Finland, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Russia, and, closer to home, Mexico and Canada, with the Huron Carol.

John Adams Portrait

After devoting two critically commended recordings of Portraits, to Philip Glass and Arvo Part, Angele Dubeau & La Pieta is now boldly launching itself into the universe of John Adams. Considered by many as the most fundamentally American contemporary composer, Adams knows how to meld the worlds of classical, popular and contemporary music perfectly. To shed light on the composer's multiple facets, the works chosen cover several decades of composition and were written for different ensembles: from the duo to the double quartet, and including the septet. We will be able to hear the emblematic Shaker Loops, a work that propelled him onto the international scene, the playful John's Alleged Books of Dances and Road Movies, a reconsidered sonata for violin and piano.

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

Ludovico Einaudi - Portrait

Portrait is a string of recordings presenting contemporary composers with a unique musical signature. Ludovico Einaudi is one of them. A music that captivates the listener, a sonic landscape to discover"says Angèle Dubeau. Driven by the works of this grand and prolific Italian composer, the internationally renowned violinist shares once again her passion with the excellent musicians of her string orchestra, La Pietà. For her 39th album in career, Angèle Dubeau offers a unique revisit to Ludovico Einaudi's music, "changing its texture, rethinking its character, while bringing a new sonic dimension."

A Time for Us

Analekta presents Angele Dubeau & La Pieta's new album, A Time for Us, featuring some of the most beautiful film scores, all favourites of the violinist.

"I have chosen musical moments that speak to me, film music that is particularly appealing, and great musical pieces that inspire images," explains Angele Dubeau. "My relationship to this music is not the kind chosen by composers, who have created emotions that are attached to images, to a reality conceived for film. Rather, I was inspired by pure music, ignoring conveyed images, and taking it elsewhere in order to recreate my own musical universe. What I feel when I play these works comes from the music, and my approach has been comparable in all respects to the one I favour when working on my repertoire. That is why pieces that are first of all functional go beyond their role by defying time and, breaking out of their framework, become masterpieces."

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

Arvo Part: Portrait

Following a highly successful venture in Philip Glass' soundscape, Angele Dubeau now goes on the trail of Estonian composer Arvo Part. Frequently referred to as meditative, Part prefers to describe his music as a light going through a prism, every listener perceiving it in a different way. Angele Dubeau is revisiting Tabula rasa, Spiegel im Spiegel and Pilgrim's Song. An essential album for this era when nothing seems to be stoppable.

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

Philip Glass Portrait

Canada's internationally acclaimed and best selling violinist, Angele Dubeau, along with her chamber ensemble La Pieta, turn in a resolutely contemporary direction for their new album on Analekta: a musical portrait of Philip Glass. The prolific American composer has had an extraordinary and unprecedented impact upon the musical and intellectual life of his times. Here, Dubeau paints a dramatic portrait of Glass with some of his most significant works for strings.

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

Blanc

"BLANC like purity and serenity. BLANC for luminous music that can bring interior peace through its strength and powerful evocation. Fully charged emotions that reflect the strange solitude found in illness. After months of battle against cancer, music has been my focal point, it has brought me comfort, tranquillity and sometimes, an essential escape. This music is of Brubeck, Dompierre, Golijov, Hisaishi, Morricone, Mozetich, Munsey, O'Connor, Phillips, Sakamoto, Schyman and Stevens. A music without artifice, real and filled with hope. This album tells my story, the story of a woman like many others who had to fight against illness and, serenely, came out of it stronger." The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation Thanks You Thank you. By buying this album, you will be helping the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation to finance research and innovation, to support women affected by breast cancer and make breast cancer health a priority thanks to initiatives in education and awareness.

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

Ovation

In December 2017, with two sold-out concerts at the Maison symphonique de Montréal, the tour celebrating Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà's 20th anniversary came to an end. This tour of thirty-three concerts was, for the violinist, an opportunity to thank her Quebec fans for the support they had given her throughout her career.

It was on that tour, during the concerts at Palais Montcalm in Quebec City, that Ovation was recorded. This new album features a retrospective program composed of works by the likes of Einaudi, Richter, Glass, Enescu and Saint-Saens and which have been landmarks of the first 20 years of La Pietà's career. The album also showcases a violinist at the top of her form and a concert where magic and perfection are in symbiosis.

Angele Dubeau & La Pieta:

The new album Max Richter: Portrait by Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà is a striking addition to the Portrait series, music of great depth and acute sensitivity.
