January's edition of Heavy Rotation, chosen by NPR member stations, features a pick from Matt Silver, WRTI: Philadelphia, music from Melody Gardot - Sunset In The Blue......Matt writes Minimalism backed by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra strings is no sweat for Melody Gardot and producer Larry Klein, who manage to keep things very lean. Gardot doesn't need more cover than gentle brushwork from V...
Melody Gardot's 'Sunset in the Blue' is a subtle and sophisticated blend of old and new / Jazz Journal
Whilst there is no shortage of female singers in the world of jazz, there is definitely a premier league which Melody Gardot cohabits with other luminaries such as Diana Krall, Cassandra Wilson, Jane Monheit and a few select others. What sets these artists apart, other than being able to sell albums in large quantities and fill vast concert venues, is an instantly recognisable voice, an innate ability to...
Lush and torchy, Melody Gardot's 'Sunset in the Blue' aches with passion and romance / Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
‘Sunset in the Blue,' the new album from Melody Gardot is an exquisite collection of originals and covers, all centered around love and collaboration. It is an orchestral celebration of Melody Gardot's jazz roots. An underlying theme of determination to create and evolve her craft has always been present in Melody Gardot's work but never more so than during the production of &lsquo...
Melody Gardot - Sunset in the Blue is a welcome return to the quiet restraint and sensitive touch of her early work / The Philadelphia Inquirer
Although now based in Paris, Melody Gardot started her career as a teen in Philadelphia, and WXPN was an early adopter of her svelte jazz singing, which rightfully drew comparisons to Norah Jones and Madeleine Peyroux. "Sunset in the Blue," her fifth studio album, is her first since 2015's "Currency of Man," which dabbled in soul and funk, with mixed results. It's a welcome return to the quiet restraint ...
What a pick-me-up Melody Gardot - Sunset in the Blue is! / theartsdesk
What a pick-me-up this album is. Released as the days darken, literally and metaphorically, it's a real joy – a transport of delight to dappled squares in Paris or Lisbon, or a street party in Rio. Sunset in the Blue is billed as "an orchestral celebration of Melody Gardot's jazz roots" but the abiding sound that remains in the mind's ear after the album's finished is that of a jazz guitar, played ...
Melody Gardot is in torrid torch-song mode on 'Sunset in the Blue' / London JazzNews
Well this is a surprise. You may have heard the radio-friendly single Little Something that the American singer-songwriter has conjured up with Sting. However, that sunny slice of Latin lite gives zero clues to Gardot's fifth studio album. Nor, for that matter, does her fourth album, Currency of Man, which was all rootsy funk and socially aware lyrics addressing racism and poverty. No, in Covid times...
I love Melody Gardot. I just love her. I love how her music is never in a rush / 45RPM
I love Melody Gardot. I just love her. I love how her music is never in a rush. I love the quiet majesty of the production on her records. But most of all, I love how, despite being a mere 35 years of age, the tone of her voice seems to betray a lifetime's-worth of wisdom far too complex and nuanced for a whippersnapper like me to understand. ‘Sunset in the Blue' is the lead-off single from an upco...

Melody Gardot - Live in Europe exudes exotic sensuality and delicate frailty / Jazz Weekly
I've seen her twice in concert, and in person Melody Gardot veers between the hip rebel and vulnerable waif, with a voice that is palpably tender, but sometimes a delivery of a rebellious student. Like Marlene Dietrich, she exudes both exotic sensuality and delicate frailty simultaneously and without effort. The two disc set covers European concerts dating between 2012 and 2016, initially with Sam Minae/...
