Nikolaj Znaider gives top tips - when leading a concerto without conductor / The Violin Channel
Danish-Israeli violinist Nikolaj Znaider performs at the highest level as both conductor and virtuoso violin soloist with the world's most distinguished orchestras. He has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Mariinsky Orchestra Saint Petersburg since 2010, and was previously Principal Guest Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Following a triumphant return to the Tanglewood Festival with the...
For sheer beauty of sound and seamless cantabile, Nikolaj Znaider seems never to stop singing / theStrad
For sheer beauty of sound and seamless cantabile – Nikolaj Znaider seems never to stop ‘singing' – these radiantly engineered live recordings, recorded six months apart in 2016 and 2017, are among the most exquisite ever captured on disc. Znaider's silvery purity and gently cushioned, feather-light articulation combine to create a magical sound world of playful semantics in which the sl...
Nikolaj Znaider remarkably discharges dual duties of soloist and conductor with CSO / Chicago Tribune
Who would have imagined that the classical music year would limp to a close with allegations of flagrant sexual misconduct scarring the careers of several prominent conductors? At times like these, music lovers need to take the long view, reminding themselves that great music will outlive the private misdeeds of its public practitioners. The music did indeed go on, splendidly so, Thursday night at Sympho...
Nikolaj Znaider with Cleveland Orchestra make strong case for Nielsen / South Florida Classical Review
The Cleveland Orchestra brought music from Scandinavia to the Arsht Center in Miami Thursday, performing a neglected concerto and one of the region's most popular symphonies. The former was the Violin Concerto of Carl Nielsen, Denmark's greatest composer. The work's 1912 premiere came just eight years after the premiere of its Nordic cousin, the Violin Concerto of Sibelius. But while the Sibelius concert...
Conductor - Violinist Nikolaj Znaider with LSO at Barbican / theguardian review
Nikolaj Znaider's relationship with the London Symphony Orchestra is well-established. As a violinist, he made his debut with them 10 years ago and his conducting debut came in 2011, the year he was named principal guest conductor of the Mariinsky Orchestra. With the LSO, Znaider is currently embarking on the cycle of Mozart's violin concertos, setting them alongside the last three symphonies of Tchaikov...
Nikolaj Znaider Q&A's with theartsdesk
Unquestionably one of the greats as a performer, Danish-Israeli violinist and conductor Nikolay Znaider divides opinion over his forthright views: either honourable and refreshingly candid, or troublingly indiscreet. After an hour and a half with him between the two finals of the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in Odense, I plump fervently for the former. Meanwhile, a certain online scandal...
Violinist Nickolaj Znaider's Beethoven Odyssey / WRTI - Creatively Speaking
Ludwig van Beethoven tried certain musical forms only once. One opera, one violin concerto, was all he wrote. Violinist Nikolaj Znaider says he spent years preparing to take on, what he says is, one of the most difficult pieces for his instrument. It took age, and its attendant personal and artistic growth, for him to get beyond what he describes as "mere graphical representation of the music, those blac...
