Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak set to headline Bastille Day concert / OPERAwire

The Orchestra National de France and the Choeur and Maîtrise de Radio France will present a free Bastille Day concert on Sunday, Jul. 14, 2019 which will take place "at the foot of the Eiffel Tower . . . [and] will be followed by the very famous fireworks," according to SortiraParis. Jaap Van Zweden will lead the orchestra.

The event will kick off with the "Hungarian March" from Berlioz' "The Damnation of Faust." Then, Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak will sing the aria "Je Veux Vivre" from Gounod's "Roméo et Juliette." The orchestra will perform the opening from Bizet's "Carmen," and the "Habanera," sung by French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez, will follow. German bass René Pape will sing "Le Veau d'Or" from Gounod's "Faust," and Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński will perform "Vedro con mio diletto" from Vivladi's "Giustino."

French tenor Roberto Alagna and classical guitarist Xuefei Yang will perform Charles Aznavour's "La Mamma." Alagna will later return to sing "Rachel, quand du Seigneur" from Fromental Halévy's "La Juive," "Le Muletier et la Jeune Personne" from Offenbach's "La Périchole" with Gaëlle Arquez, and "L'Heure Exquise" from Lehar's "La Veuve Joyeuse" with Aleksandra Kurzak. Yang will return for Joaquin Rodrigo's Concerto d'Aranjuez (adagio).
