Javier Camarena:

Contrabandista

Contrabandista, the Decca debut of MET favorite Javier Camarena, delves deep into the life and music of legendary Spanish tenor Manuel García, including three world premiere recordings by García. The album also features favorites by Rossini and Zingarelli, including a stunning duet from Rossini's Armida with Cecilia Bartoli. This album is the first release in the "Mentored by Bartoli" series, a partnership between Decca Classics and the Cecilia Bartoli - Music Foundation.

Javier Camarena, recently honored by the prestigious International Opera Awards organization as Male Singer of the Year, has positioned himself as one of the most prominent and sought-after artists in the world, performing with resounding success in the main opera houses and concert halls. In recent years, he has enriched his repertoire with new roles, notably those of Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor and Gualterio in Bellini's Il Pirata.

He is the only singer in history to have sung an encore in three different productions at the MET in New York: La Cenerentola (2014), Don Pasquale (2016) and La Fille du Régiment (2019) where he achieved the unequaled feat of achieving it in each of the seven performances in which he appeared, one of which was broadcast live on Met Live HD. Camarena repeated this feat at the Fille du Régiment at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the second time that a singer has achieved an encore at that venue since its reopening, as well as at the Royal Opera House where he encores his aria in each of its four performances. .

His 2021-2022 season will include both concert tours in Mexico, Spain and China, as well as operatic productions at the Royal Opera House in London, the Zurich Opera, the Liceu in Barcelona and the MET in New York.
