Leonardo Vinci - Catone in Utica

Countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic Reveals a Forgotten Jewel of the Baroque: Vinci's Catone in Utica

Star countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic steps into new musical territory with the world premiere recording of Catone in Utica by Leonardo Vinci, a forgotten genius of Italian opera. Born in 1696, for generations Vinci has been just another obscure Baroque composer. But Cencic's pioneering music production company Parnassus Arts put him firmly on the musical map with successful performances of Artaserse. Now Cencic unveils Vinci's Catone in Utica, a powerful tale of Julius Caesar's defeat of the Republican forces led by Marcus Porcius Cato in 46BC, exploring the eternal themes of love, duty and honor. The latest fruit of a groundbreaking agreement between Decca, Cencic and Parnassus Arts, the recording gives many opera fans their first opportunity to hear this work.

Max Emanuel Cencic:

Arie Napoletane

The award-winning Max Emanuel Cencic celebrates the musical riches of Naples in his latest solo album for Decca. Arie Napoletane follows naturally from the prodigious countertenor's critically acclaimed recording of opera arias by Hasse, Rokoko. This new album includes ten world premiere recordings of virtuoso arias by Porpora, Leo, Vinci and Alessandro Scarlatti. Cencic's selection of repertoire reflects his determination to breathe fresh life into neglected masterworks from the 17th and 18th centuries. His rich blend of technical agility, daring artistry and tonal clarity is ideally suited to his choice of works, which includes the heroic "Quel vasto, quel fiero" from Porpora's Polifemo and "No, non vedrete mai" from Leo's Siface. Cencic is partnered by his long-standing artistic collaborators Il Pomo d'Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev, who also performs the flamboyant solo keyboard part in Domenico Auletta's Concerto in D for harpsichord, two violins and continuo.
