On May 12, 2011, at Kendall's Ankarr Restaurant, Miami music legends Jose Negroni and Federico Britos invited Dr. Ed Calle to lunch. After the customary hugs, Negroni and Britos proposed that two-time Latin Grammy® nominated Negroni's Trio featuring pianist Jose Negroni, drummer Nomar Negroni, and bassist Josh Allen, violinist and 2015 lifetime Latin Grammy® Award recipient Federico Britos, and four-time Grammy® nominated saxophonist Dr. Ed Calle join forces to establish a new ensemble. Before the cafecitos and pastries were served and enjoyed, the concept was developed, parameters were defined, repertoire was selected, and the World Music 5 was born.
