Silkroad Ensemble fuses musical culture at QPAC / ArtsHub review

Founded 20 years ago by acclaimed cellist, Yo-Yo Ma. Conceived as a means by which musicians from all genres and backgrounds could work together in a productive cultural collaboration, Silkroad Ensemble comprises an ever-evolving group of amazing musicians. Named after the route of the ancient Silk Road, which connected east and west, the vision of the Ensembleisto facilitate an exchange of ideas, culture, arts and music. An eclectic group of nine musicians comprise the current Ensemble that is undertaking its first Australian tour. 

For the 7 March 2019 Concert Hall, QPAC performance, Silkroad Included; Indian tabla, Chinese sheng and suona, Galician bagpipes, a range of percussion and the dark strings of viola, cello and double bass, and the Ensemble fused musical cultural in thought-provoking ways.   Photo by Max Whittaker
